Bluebird Houses Available from the SWCD

Bluebirds were once among the most common songbirds in America; however, population of bluebirds has declined. White County SWCD has a limited supply of quality nesting boxes available for $30 each, being built by OWL program students of Southeastern Illinois College. The boxes have been carefully designed to provide safe and acceptable nesting sites to help reestablish bluebirds in the area. Bluebirds arrive in Illinois in early spring, and will search diligently for days or weeks over a large area in order to find acceptable nesting sites. A good practice is to place the boxes in pairs about 100 yards apart. The White County Soil and Water Conservation District office is located in the USDA Service Center on West Main Street in Carmi.
